The Kiwanis Club of Biscayne Bay is an all-volunteer service organization of professional men and women based in Downtown Miami that improves the lives of disadvantaged children in Overtown, Allapattah, and Midtown Miami through educational programs, field trips, and hands on service projects. Its membership is diverse like the Miami community it serves. The organization is versatile, as a service project can help alleviate almost any community need. It is vibrant, with many opportunities to serve each month.
For more than 65 years, Biscayne Bay Kiwanis has changed lives and brightened the futures of thousands of children by bringing Kiwanis’ programs to our community. Thanks to the dedication of its members, it has become one of the preeminent service organizations in South Florida. All fundraising proceeds benefit the children, as the members cover all administrative costs. The Kiwanis Club of Biscayne Bay Youth Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization.
Biscayne Bay Kiwanis regularly provides resources and volunteers to more than a dozen partner schools in our service area for reading projects, presentations on careers, etiquette, civics, and life skills, school events, talent shows, class trips, and more. It also supplies uniforms and backpacks for the neediest students, support for garden projects, and equipment and books for media centers. Kiwanis incentive programs in our partner schools encourage regular attendance and academic achievement. For instance, the Bring Up Grades program is crucially important because it recognizes, rewards, and encourages students who do not make the Principal’s List but who do improve their performance from one grading period to the next.
In addition to being involved in the life of our partner schools, Biscayne Bay Kiwanis provides support for Kiwanis-family student organizations such as Key Club so young people can learn to become the leaders of tomorrow through service. Biscayne Bay proudly supports Key Clubs at Booker T. Washington Senior High, Law Enforcement Officers Memorial S.H., Miami Jackson S.H., Miami Springs S.H., and iPrep Academy. Tens of thousands of dollars are provided annually for college scholarships.
Biscayne Bay’s members also serve disabled adults in our community by providing activities, holiday parties, and day trips. It has been our holiday tradition for many years to provide all the presents on the wish-list of every resident of United Cerebral Palsy’s Home Center.
If you would like to give and back alongside new friends who could become lifelong friends and make Miami a better place, join Biscayne Bay Kiwanis.
